The fishing village of Hatteras is within walking distance from the subdivision. The village is one of few left to retain a true Outer Banks character. The people are warm and hospitable with many still making their living as fourth or fifth generation watermen. The village contains the largest sports fishing fleet on the island. There are shops and a number of fine restaurants. This is not your place if you prefer fast food.
The community is rich with history and heritage dating back to the early days of life saving stations on the outer banks. The Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum, located at the South end of the village, has one of the most complete collections of Hatteras Island and marine artifacts.
There are several boat ramps, marinas, and numerous docking slips available. To serve the flying public, the National Park Service maintains Billy Mitchell airfield three miles North of the village. The field has a 3500 ft asphalt runway, two aircraft parking ramps, and a remote weather recording facility (HSE).
